Holothon: Golden Rose Paris holographic color 107

For today’s holo, I chose something simple and office-appropriate, yet not boring: Golden Rose Paris holographic color no. 107.

Golden-Rose-Paris-Holographic-color-107-smalto-holo-scattered

Two easy coats, quick drying and without dragging. No topcoat. It’s a scattered holo, and not the most flashing holo around, but still it’s an original colour and I had nothing similar in my collection. I bought this on beautycosmetic for a really good price, and I can recommend to you both the polish and the store. Besides, Golden Rose is always on trend so it’s a brand to keep an eye on.

The very talented Silvia from ToxicVanity started a new twinsie post for Fridays, Úsalo Ya, which I’m really happy to join. She is a real artist and you should take the time to check her blog, as I’m sure you’ll love her creations.
#usaloya
The theme is a manicure with a polish we have never used before, shared online using the hashtag “#usaloya“. That really suits me, as I probably have more than 100 nail polish I haven’t used yet! Also, I’m really looking forward to know some new bloggers (the participants are at the bottom).

Anny 694 Blue hypnosis, LE desert glam las vegas show stars, blue sand effect nail polish

My choice for the day is Anny 694 Blue Hypnosis, from their Desert Glam Las Vegas Show Stars limited edition. I got this at Marionnaud in Switzerland but I’m glad to see that Italian Douglas stores are now starting to carry Anny minis limited editions. They retail for € 4,95/CHF 7,90 (while the full-sized Anny retail for € 9,95).
These are two coats (without top coat to preserve the sand finish). It lasted long and was easy to remove.

Neon Lights: L.A. Girl Brites Kryptonite and Yes Love glow in the dark

Goldfrancine from the beauty case suggested a neon-themed manicure for today, so here I am with a bright neon green: L.A. Girl GNL469 Kryptonite, from their Brites collection. I paired it with Yes Love no. 10 which is a slightly tinted jelly polish that glows in the dark! How cool is that? I’m a sucker for anything GITD!

Neon green nails: L.A. Girl Brites GNL469 Kryptonite, Yes Love glow in the dark 10

The Yes Love is not marked as glow in the dark, and I found out it was only by chance. You might want to check if it has a jelly consistency as it was the biggest tell. Or, if you already have one at home, just put it under light to “charge” it: it charges quickly (but glows less strong over time).

It has almost no colour payoff so it’s impossible to get the colour you see in the bottle. For the strongest glow I suggest layering it several times over white, as it gives brighter results than green. You’ll have to trust me on this as my camera wouldn’t capture anything with the lights off.
The downside to this polish is that it takes a really long time to dry, so I used Seche Vite, but still as you can see it made some bubbles.

I liked the neon green, and the Yes Love since it’s not easy to apply now sits on my bedstand, so I can watch it glow every night. Sounds like a fairytale ending!

Check out my friend’s manicures for the day on this Pinterest board: clicking an image first enlarges is, then a second click takes you to their blog post. Happy re-pinning!

Holothon: Shaka 03 Hologram Violet, old and new version comparison

I’m alive! And I’m back with one (or should I say two?) purple holo: Shaka Hologram Violet, no. 03.

Shaka’s Hologram collection came out last year, but a couple of days ago Simona from Light Your Nails saw them again in stores. She has a great eye and immediately noticed one thing: the new (2013) Hologram Violet doesn’t look like the original (2012) one!

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

Let’s compare them, shall we?

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

These are two coats each, with a clear sandwich layer in between to avoid dragging. No top coat, pictures taken in direct sunlight.
As you can see, they look like two different polishes. The 2013 version is darker, a bit less runny so easier to apply, but sadly also less holographic. The original 2012 version clearly is a linear holo, while the 2013 one looks more like a scattered holo.

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

Shaka 03 Hologram Violet 2 versions: 2012 linear and 2013 scattered holo nail polish

They’re both very beautiful if you ask me, but I don’t really like when they change formula and pretend it’s the same nail polish.
Do you own any of the two? Also, if you’re wondering if this new 2013 Hologram Violet is similar to any Astra Holo Lacquer, stay tuned as I’m comparing them tomorrow!

Comparison: Shaka 03 Hologram Violet vs. Astra Holo Lacquer 706 Holo Pink and 707 Holo Purple

Vai al post in italianoYesterday I showed you the differences between the original and the new version of Shaka‘s 03 Hologram Violet, and some of you were wondering if the scattered version was similar to the famous Astra Holo Lacquers. I’m comparing it (2013 only) to the closest shades in that line, no. 706 Holo Pink and no. 707 Holo Purple.

Comparison: Shaka 03 Hologram Violet vs. Astra Holo Lacquer 706 Holo Pink and 707 Holo Purple

Comparison: Shaka 03 Hologram Violet vs. Astra Holo Lacquer 706 Holo Pink and 707 Holo Purple

As you can see, they’re not dupes. Although the scattered holo effect is comparable, shade and application are different. Shaka’s holos are thin and need sandwiching, while Astra’s are easier to apply without having to be extra careful.
Shaka is € 1,99/5ml, and Astra is € 4,00/12ml.

Comparison: Shaka 03 Hologram Violet vs. Astra Holo Lacquer 706 Holo Pink and 707 Holo Purple

Comparison: Shaka 03 Hologram Violet vs. Astra Holo Lacquer 706 Holo Pink and 707 Holo Purple

Holo is my favourite finish for the summer (duochromes for winter), so I’m happy to own them all. If you’d rather have only some of them, I hope this can work as a reference for you.
Hve you tried any of these? Which is your favourite?

Holothon: Catherine Arley 800

Vai al post in italianoGood evening ladies!
Today I have an easy scattered holographic by Catherine Arley, no. 800. It’s nice and has great depth, and I got this because I wanted a red holo (I had none, can you believe it? They’re not that common, I guess).

These are two easy coats, which gave me good coverage (the nail line is barely noticeable in real life) and good lasting power: I had tipwear on the evening of the third day. Overall, I was really satisfied with it; it might not be that easy to find in phisical stores here but you can find it on beautycosmetic.biz, where I bought this.

Do you have any red holos or Catherine Arley’s?

Holothon: Perfect holographic H7

Hi!
Today it’s my birthday and I’ll probably be wearing something else right now, but today’s holo is a lovely one anyway. It’s Perfect holographic H7, on my super short nails (never file when you’re absent-minded, nervous or angry).

Perfect holographic H7 nail polish purple linear holo smalto olografico viola

I didn’t know this brand until beautycosmetic listed 8 holographic nail polish which captured my attention. They are linear holos so I got them all (well, I ordered them all, but apparently my H5 is a mislabeled H6 instead. So I’m missing one swatch, sorry!). This is the only picure in the shade (the others are taken in direct sunlight) and you can still see a bit of rainbow.

Perfect Holographic nail polish smalto linear holo H1 H2 H3 H4 H6 H7 H8 swatches

They are € 1,05 for 6,5 ml and are 5-free. The nail polish is completely separated and you have to stir it well before you use it, so I suggest adding one or two mixing balls.
The effect is great, but this must be the hardest linear holo I’ve ever applied. The first coat drags incredibly and leaves giant naked spots, and feels like applying fine sand sometimes. I ended up dabbing it on like you would apply some glitter toppers. The second coat is easier though, both if you sandwich with clear top coat or not. Now that you’re warned, I still think the final effect is worth the hassle, and will definitely be getting the one I’m missing.

Here we are, almost at the end of our Holothon, as you know this finish is best enjoyed in full sunlight. I chose Layla‘s Hologram Effect no. 16 Coffee Love, and Kiko‘s no. 399 Silk Taupe from last year’s Lavish Oriental limited edition. They are both two stunning linear holos, aren’t they?

It’s the last day of the Holoton already :( It’s sad, but my pictures clearly show the reason why this marathon has to come to an end: you need a full, bright sun to enjoy holos at their best. I took pictures in sunlight but it wasn’t bright enough to show the rainbow on my nails, so you’ll have to trust me that Claire’s no. 36325 gets way more sparkly than this in real life.

I also have news: Claire’s is changing the look of their nail polish line. You can see the new bottles here below: they remind me of the Nails Inc ones. They hold 1 ml more than their older bottles (10 vs 9 ml) at the same price (€ 2,99 / 3,50 / 4,95 depending on the effect). Older bottles are being discontinued and sold at € 1, and it’s worth noting that it’s just a repackaging so the new bottles have the same shades. What’s best if you ask me, is that now each Claire’s nail polish has a name! It’s on a white label on the bottom of the bottle. Some of the names are rather boring, but still it’s better than nothing. You can check them out on their official website.

Faby recently launched the Illusion collection for fall-winter 2015, with 12 new colours. Today, I’m showing you two of them, The Magic Wand and Sim Sala Bim!.

I asked Faby’s manicurist to apply those shades because both are original: the gold Sim Sala Bim! has different shapes of glitter and the silver The Magic Wand has purple, green and orange shimmer in the shade (but it was impossible to capture in pictures so you’ll have to take my word for it).

I’ll leave you to a couple of pics of the event, where you can see the other shades of the Illusion collection.
As usual, let me know what you think!

They’re defined “Silky Balm and Gloss” but they’re as pigmented as a lipstick. On their own, they last a few hours before fading nicely. The scent is fruity and they can be twisted up and down.
At € 1,79 (here in Italy) for 3,3 ml I’m more than satisfied. They’re even made in Germany!

Did you get the chance to try them?

#LaylaBeautyEvent: Pink or Red?

Recently, Layla Cosmetics asked bloggers to publish a post or video if they’d like to participate in their next press event, so I took the chance to play with some Ceramic Effect nail polish for two manis.
Let’s start with the pink one, Layla Ceramic Effect 17. I was inspired by spring and the many weddings in this season.

And for those who prefer brighter colours, fear not, I have combined three fiery reds in my dry brushing nail art: Ceramic Effect 114, 14 and 45 (left to right).

The Ceramic Effect 114 that I used as a base is already stunning on its own, so bright and vibrant.

These words of appreciation really come from me. I think Layla is a high quality brand who came out with great products over the years (the Hologram Effect line just to name one), and I’m really curious to see what’s next.

I’m not a famous blogger but you know I’ve never done a paid post and never will, so everything here is my honest opinion, from friend to friend – that’s what counts for me.

My first nail polish was a pink Layla one and they say you never forget your first love.
And even if I won’t be invited, playing with these was fun and, with more than 40 Laylas in my stash the party isn’t over yet!

The base is three coats of Mi-ny no. 10 Eos, and the flowers are no. 173 Freedom, with the watercolour technique and some gouache to add depth.

I thought these colours were discontinued but I was happy to see they’re still on the official website. As usual with this brand, quality and drying time are good, and Freedom is particularly pigmented.

What do you think? Have you tried any?

In Layla’s words it’s a gel polish that cures without any lamp, does not need files, buffers nor cleaners and lasts 10 days. Sound like a lot to promise, but as usual Layla does not disappoint.
Let’s see what was my experience but first, some pictures of the #laylabeautyevent.
